Going to start this post by letting you all know this is not your typical BNC Fashion Post. However, this is a post that I suddenly feel so strongly about, and want your guys’ genuine opinion on it, even if it conflicts with mine.
Just curious how you all feel about the phrase, “Copycat.” Or better yet, someone saying, “You Copied Me” or “You copied her/him.”
Recently, this phrase was brought up to me, and it struck this weird chord that eventually kickstarted this post. I guess this whole idea is the reason why I fell hard and fast for the blogging world. The idea of unity not contention.
Luckily, I do feel like more people are on the right side of “Copying” these days. I mean, think about the amount of Influencers there are in the world. They embody the entire idea of sharing and educating followers on products, skills, life situations, and just about anything else.
After now having this blog for a couple of weeks, and stepping into the Influencer world, I definitely realize there are two types of people in the world. You have those who want to include everyone, and those who keep a tight circle with no room for growth. Each is fine, I guess, but I realize now the type of person I most certainly want to be. It takes me back to my days of Competitive dance….
There came a point in time where I started to experiment with brands of clothing. In High School, I started to really care about Fashion trends, and new fads. Just because I was buying my clothes at a different store than every other girl, I was always quick to tell everyone where I got it from and how great the store was. Maybe this was me being an influencer without even knowing it 😉
I do feel that this generation we have on the rise, and my generation now, we are always trying to “one-up” each other. Honestly, its getting so gross. And I fully blame social media. I fall victim to it more than I should, so I am equally guilty. But we also have the power to include, instead of compete with one another. It really is the REASON I started this blog journey. I wanted people who love fashion, and trends, and a feel-good lifestyle to be able to have that without having to COMPETE with privileged, successful Instagram people.
I see this time and time again with the dancers I teach. It has become more obvious that they are always trying to have the best dance clothes, and out-do each other. (Naturally these kids are competitive, being in a competitive sport, BUT!) I overhear kids ask other kids where their leotard or outfit is from and they reply with, “I don’t Know,” even though there is a tag and a logo symbol on the leotard. Naturally, I want to say, “YOU DON’T KNOW? THAT LEOTARD JUST FELL FROM THE DAMN SKY?” But I don’t. I just feel guilty that our selfishness and need to be the first to have certain things, and the righteousness of starting a trend has now trickled into the younger generations.
I often hear people say, “Well, everyone has that.” WHO CARES! Understand that this was the creators intention, and if you feel like you were the first to have it or wear it, YOU ARE NOT THE CREATOR. End of story.
I understand that everyone is different in their thoughts. However, I do feel that this is something we have the power to smother. Let’s make the term “Copying” a positive term.
So, the round-about message of this post, is to find flattery when someone buys, wears, or does something that you have worn or done. You have impacted that person in some way that makes them want to follow your lead. Whether it is dressing cool, finding a cute pair of shoes, or starting a diet. Even taking up a new sport or passion, you have inspired that person. You’re damn right, they “Copied” you, and you should feel happy that they agree with your decisions.
To those of you reading this that still feel like everyone is “Copying” you, I have a message for you too. I have not left you out don’t worry……..it is two words, short and sweet.
*The following message is too explicit for BNC readers, and has been removed from this site.
On that note, carry on with your day everyone! I hope you have enjoyed my rant. Unfortunately, the dress I am wearing in this post is no longer on the Zara website. I have attached a few similar dresses below. If you would like to shop the other items from this post, I have also attached them!
