Hello my love.
Welcome to the Love Issue of BurbNChic! We are talking ALL things Valentine’s Day today. Lots of little goodies bundled into one big post about the Hallmark Holiday.
In this post, you will find:
- Outfit Idea’s
- Gift Idea’s
- Date Night Idea’s
Let’s get started….
Can we just start with a disclaimer. (Like we start most of these posts)
I am not a HUGE fan of Valentine’s Day.
However, I love any Holiday that basically makes Kev look like the world’s largest asshole if he DOESN’T buy me flowers. So therefore, I am a fan of flowers, which makes me a fan of Valentine’s Day.
Let’s talk outfits. My favorite thing to discuss! I feel like, if you are going to celebrate Valentine’s Day, then be festive and get yourself a fun outfit.
Red is really having a moment lately. I’m not mad, I’ve always been a red lover. So let’s see just what I have found for some Valentine’s Day outfit inspiration!!
Okay, so let me show you how I would piece together these FABULOUS options!
Option 1: The “Unexpected” Look
Option 2: The “Flirty” Look
Option 3: The “Casual” Look
Another thing about Valentine’s Day, is the stress of buying a gift. It’s awkward because, Christmas just happened, but you still feel that need to get your loved one a gift. But then there is that thought of, well is he/she getting me something serious? Or expensive? Should I get them something equally as serious or expensive? If I get them something extravagant and he/she just gives me flowers, then you make THEM look bad.
IT’S A WHOLE THING!!!!!
I’m speaking from experience! Can you tell? I feel like every year, I wait until last minute to get Kev something, and I genuinely stress about it. I love to give gifts, so I give any chance I can get. But this Holiday is awkward for gift giving, especially giving to men!! However, if I have realized anything… it is that trying to think outside the box, and get them something different, does not typically work out. (Men, see below.. WE want YOU to think outside the box.) I like to stick with the basics, and just replenish their supply of necessities. (i.e. Shoes, clothes, technology)
I have hooked you up with some gifts that have worked for me in the past. These idea’s are SURE to please, and they are not too over the top. It is the thought that counts!
(Kev this is not a give-away to your gift)
But what about us?
What do us girls expect from our guy/girl for Valentine’s Day? See here’s the thing, we all like to SAY we are so simple and just want flowers and candy……. Let’s just stop right there. Those things are really beautiful, however… I get a little annoyed with the flowers once a year thing. Kevin knows this, so I’m not “technically” blasting him. Right?
Attention Men: We would like YOU to think outside the box.
I have come up with a wide range of random gifts for guys to get us this year! A Barefoot Dreams blanket, or a silky Slip pillow case for our luscious hair. WE LOVE THIS STUFF!!! And its not creepy lingerie (lets get real…. we don’t wear that stuff anyways.)
I have gone the practical route…. sort of…. Nothing makes men more pissed than gifts we only use occasionally. They like to see their money get good use. (Or is this just Kevin?)
These gifts seem thoughtful enough for this cute little Holiday. I am telling you, if Kevin got me a silk Slip pillow case, I’d be shocked, and pleased! You just have to drop the hint. Even when you think they are not listening… they secretly are.
It’s like when I really wanted a Gucci Belt. Such an obnoxious unnecessary item to have in my life, but it was something I really wanted. I WAS SO OBNOXIOUS ABOUT IT! Every outfit I would put on, I would say.. “A Gucci Belt would really complete this look.” I was sending subliminal messages like a Motherf******. This is a terrible story and making me look like a total jerk.. so I’ll quit while I’m ahead.
Back to my point. HINT DROPPING. Practice it ladies!
One last thing…
What are your plans for the Holiday?
Are you bored with the typical, “out to dinner at an overpriced restaurant thats crowded anyways”, type of thing?
Not that, that isn’t thoughtful. It really is! But if you’re in the position I am, where you have been in a relationship for many years.. then you’re looking for something a little different. (I know Kevin is reading this, so I am NOW going to practice that “dropping a hint” idea.)
Let’s get right to it. What are couples looking for?
“Bitchin in the Kitchen”
1. Stay in, and cook your partner their most favorite meal. DON’T tell them what you’re making, and try to make it something unexpected.(I always ask Kevin what his last meal on Earth would be.) Once you have that info, then make them just that! Get a good bottle of wine, and set the tone. Bossa Nova music, candles. NO TV, NO PHONES. Make it a big ass deal! And leave the chit chat to fun things. Try not to sit and talk about household chores that need to be done, or things that have not yet gotten accomplished. Instead talk about you two, plan a getaway trip, or plan your next date night. Keep it lovey!
2. Do something unexpected!! If I have learned one thing, it is that… If we sit back and think that the men are going to plan something. YOU’RE SO WRONG! Then we just end up being disappointed. I like the idea of taking the fancy out of Valentines day. I guess this all depends on the couple.. But I feel like some of the best times Kev and I have are when we go to a bar, get some greasy bar food and just shoot the shit over some beers. (Blue Moon ONLY for me.) But this is THEIR idea of a fun environment. Go somewhere you can bar hop. Make it a fun thing, but make it just the two of you! It’s something they do with their bro’s and it typically annoys us, so instead of letting it bother you, take it on this ONE night. You’ll be surprised how well it works. And if you REALLY want to score some points, read up on your guys favorite sports teams, and SHOCK them with some sports convo.
“DATE NIGHT IN”
3. Okay if you are looking for something REALLY different, then you must look into DATE NIGHT IN . This is so fun! It is a box that comes in the mail, filled with things to do for a date night. Honestly, IDK where this has been all my life. The part I like about it, is that it is SIMPLE stuff, that you would never think to do for a date night. I think when we all think, “Let’s go on a date” we get that idea of a fancy dinner and dressed up clothing. This little box, breaks the barrier on that. It could be something so simple as painting together. Random right? But something you will talk about, and share time and conversation over! Definitely going to try this one!!
Here we have it. The love/hate Holiday that happens EVERY year whether we like it or not. Hopefully this year, we can all attempt to approach it with love and appreciation. Even though I know EVERYONE’S hangup is that it should not be just ONE day a year that we celebrate love, it is just intended to give a little Extra appreciation! Don’t be a Debbie Downer, just go with it. Put on your red pumps and handle it like a boss!
Happy LOVE Day ya’ll!
PS, if you are looking for the red sweater I am wearing in this post. It is Something Navy x Treasure and Bond. However, it is SOLD OUT! Luckily I have you found one that is VERY Similar, and I have linked it for you HERE .
