( A word you really only hear consistently from December 26th- January 1st)
Hey, what’s up? Hello. Happy New Year everyone! So this is a first……the first and potentially ONLY, or maybe first of many, “Talk Tuesday” Posts. If you are reading this, you are witnessing a very dry run of something I am trying to incorporate into my blog.
Why am I doing this?
Honestly, talking about clothing and accessories and all of those girly things is VERY fun for me. However, I can and definitely enjoy, talking about things other than Fashion. I have gone back and forth with bringing this into my blog/influencer space for a while because quite honestly, every topic ever spoken about these days, is controversial. And ya know what? Good. Let’s do it. I truly believe we could all afford to step out from behind the Instagram filters and Face Tune and have a real discussion. About ANYTHING! So before we head into todays topic, there are TWO things.
One. PLEASE feel free to throw out any “Talk Tuesday” topics that you would like me to cover. Do not hesitate!
Two. These are just simply my opinions, which we are all allowed to have. I am encouraging you to voice yours, whether you disagree, or agree. Conversations require two or more people.. right?
Todays topic is one that is right on the cusp of being Annoying. I like it.
Resolutions. A trigger word for me, honestly. I am one of those people who get severely annoyed by everyone trying to re-invent themselves for 2 weeks for the sake of coming up with a New Year resolution. Too harsh? It’s true. Everyone gets on this “high” after Christmas, before New Years, when they don’t even know what day it is, and they have spent countless hours scrolling through unrealistic Instagram pages, and suddenly we are all going to lose 15lbs. and start drinking celery. GUILTY AF.
Here is my question to YOU guys. Have you ever set a resolution, and stuck with it for more than a month?
If you are genuinely answering, “Yes” in your head.. then I want to know what the scope of your resolution was. Was it big or small? What is your hot tip for making that happen?
For years, I was super “anti-resolutions.” I thought they were silly, and I thought it was something made up by Gym owners around the nation to get business. (PS our gym is so packed right now, its annoying.) But honestly, without getting too deep, I have had a severe revelation this year with this entire topic.
Why do resolutions have to be related to physicality or appearance?
(ps this is a rhetorical question)
This year I tried to turn around my mindset with New Year resolutions. I don’t need to drop 15 lbs. and eat once a day, because honestly it’s just not me. I love chips too much. But how can I come up with 3 resolutions, very small scale, to just slightly alter my day to day life, and ultimately, make me a better person.
Here is what I have come up with:
No use of cell phone’s in the bedroom. (a seriously bad habit of mine)
Kev and I realized that we would lay in bed for over an hour, both of us on our phones and never utter a word. It was bleak. Sometimes, this is the only hour of the day I see Kev because of our schedules, so we are trying to unplug completely. So far, so good.
Read one book a month. ( Knowledge is power)
I have never been a big reader. Like, ever. I was always the kid who never read the summer reading and would just spark note everything. So, after I read books on our honeymoon, I realized how relaxing it is and decompressing. I am really going to try hard with this one, especially as I enter a stressful time of year for work.
Leave work, at work.
This resolution, is genuinely the hardest one for me. I will pat myself on the back and say that I have gotten better at this throughout the years, but honestly.. I want to go full cold turkey. If I am not physically there to handle whatever needs to be handled, then it can wait and it doesn’t need to consume my day. Being present is a large concept.
Ok, so now that you’re here at the bottom of this post. I went super easy on you with this one. Being that this is my first post in this format, I was not about to come out of the gate with what I think about screen time with the upcoming generation. Whoops! Too many clue’s about my next post? Maybe.
PLEASE. PLEASE. PLEASE.
Give your honest thoughts about this post idea. Let’s get the ball rollin’. Feel free to message me, comment or write me to jump in on the conversation and give your honest feedback.
