What’s Up, Party People?
Has everyone been enjoying their chilled Pinot Grigio and grilling out? Summer is here to stay, which means so are Summer dresses. Today’s post is massive. So many things to talk about when it comes to sundresses for summer. But I also wanted to fill you in on the huge amount of travel I am about to partake in. I am pretty locked and loaded with blog prep, but if you notice a small step on the brakes it is because this is my busiest time of year! But moving onward….
I wanted to come in hot today with a new post idea I think is so fun. Taking ONE item of clothing and styling it multiple ways. Hi my name is Kylie Bannon, and this is the story of my life. I take it as a challenge to see how many ways I can style a staple item, so I wanted to share some of my tips with you guys! Take em or leave em. Either way, buckle up! (You’ll be seeing many more posts like this one.)
But before we start….
Before we begin the post about HOW to style your sundress. You’re going to need a sundress! If you are fresh out and looking for easy, affordable sundresses, look no more. I have found some great finds for you so you can begin achieving these looks all on your own!
Today I present to you, The (Pretty Woman) Sundress 3 Different Ways
Look Number 1.
Dress it Down
Two things you should know. First, a brimmed hat makes any outfit look automatically more cute. Second, a t-shirt under a camisole dress, or top can dress it down and make it casual instantly! I have found that currently in fashion it is cool to make dresses that are short or long seem VERY casual. If you don’t believe me, google Kendall Jenner Street Style and see for yourself. It’s a thing ya’ll!
Tips for Casual Sundress Attire:
- Add a Hat (Brimmed, baseball, floppy)
- Wear a Fashion Sneaker (You could even do a higher sock and scrunch them down)
- T-shirt, or longer sleeve shirt underneath
I wanted to give you some inspiration and a jumpstart to achieving this look on your own!
Look Number 2.
Dress it Up
Typically, sundresses have a reputation for being easy breezy and for daytime. But no! I think sundresses are so easy to dress up. If I am being honest, I feel like dramatic statement necklaces and earrings have a time and a place. Therefore, I like to find ways to still dress things up using belts, and heels.. and sometimes, even a hairstyle can make an outfit go from casual to dressy. Crazy right? I am a HUGE fan of sleek hairstyles when I am getting fancy. Don’t believe me, go scroll through my instagram.
I always felt like when I was watching Fashion Police after the Emmy’s Red Carpet, they would always say, ” I wish she would have pulled back her hair to show off the look better.” This for some reason, has stuck with me! Weird, right? This is ALSO because my hair is poker straight naturally and to get my hair to do anything but lay flat to my head would require a glam squad from the Gods. Let’s keep it moving.
I cannot speak for everyone when I say that belting a dress gives it a more put together look. I have learned over the years that I gravitate towards this due to my body shape.. however it is not for everyone and I get that. If you are thinner in your butt and legs, a shift dress probably look AMAZING on you. GO girl! (Jealous)If you find yourself with a pear shape body like myself, then grab as many belts as you can. Accentuating your small center is the ticket to a good look!
Tips for Fancy Sundress Attire:
- Rock an Ankle Strap Heel, or a Stiletto (Highlight your legs)
- According to your God-Given Shape, belt your torso!
- If you are wearing a dress with any sort of print, keep your jewelry delicate
If you need help getting this look started, here are my options for you!
Look Number 3.
The Base of your Look
What do I mean by this? A look within a look. I think you could take this belted jacket look and have 10 different outfits. You could switch your denim jacket to a blazer. You could take a flowing, off the shoulder top and toss it OVER the dress, and belt it, making the dress look more like a skirt. There are SO many ways you could rock this look. Taking your sundress and make it the base underneath instead of the statement on top. It is taking the previous ideas and flipping them! Boom.
The entire time we were shooting this look I kept saying that this look would be perfect for a Country Concert. Or at least this is what I would rock at a country concert with some sneakers and a cowboy hat. (If I was ever caught dead at a Country concert.) Kevin took me to one once and it was kind of the longest night of my entire life. Thank God the booze were flowing! I was honkey tonk, boot scootin’ boogie’ing by the THIRD HOUR of the concert. (He is totally coming to the next Jay Z, Beyonce concert with me.)
What I like about the idea of making a sundress your base, is that it exemplifies everything I am trying to explain in this post. Taking something and using it again and again. Especially if your dress has a fun pattern, it can make a plain piece of clothing have a little spunk. I also think though, if done right, you could mix patterns, and it would be fun! But that’s me going very Vogue on you.
Does anyone recall when mixing prints was REALLY in at one point? I remember it was the summer of Senior Year, and I was trying to go SUPER full out with the fad. NOBODY understood what the hell I was doing, and it makes me so sad that all of these outfits I was trying so hard to be on trend with went so unappreciated by some HCO wearing’ bitches.
Phew! Had to get that one off my chest, I had been holding that in for years.
Let me keep it moving by giving you my tips for achieving this look:
- Use your dress as your base and wear something OVER it
- Use a jacket, a blazer, or even a button down shirt
- If you are NOT belting the look, DEFINITELY wear heels with this look
